BOOK PRESENTATION AND POETRY READING

«Espigues en flor. El retorn», by Maria Antònia Salvà

RUSC opens its fourteenth edition by reclaiming the memory of Maria Antònia Salvà, the first woman recognized as a poet in the Catalan language in the 20th century and an essential reference for current generations.

The presentation of the volume Espigues en flor. El retorn, published by Editorial Barcino, recovers two fundamental works where introspection, rootedness to the land, and contemplation of nature coexist with daily rural life in Mallorca.

The edition is curated by philologist and researcher Lluïsa Julià, a specialist in the author, and is completed with an epilogue by poet Maria Callís Cabrera, building a rigorous bridge between tradition and contemporaneity.

The presentation will be given by Lluïsa Julià.

INAUGURATION. SOUND INSTALLATION

«Canta i labora», by Pepe Seguí

Canta i labora is a sound art installation by Pepe Seguí that explores the traces and absence of traditional work songs.

The exhibition can be visited from its inauguration on July 24 until September 27.

Avoiding nostalgic reconstruction, the work builds an acoustic space in a continuous loop where different temporalities coexist: automatons that mechanically reinterpret human effort, documentary footage from Alan Lomax's historical archive (1950s), and contemporary recordings. A superposition of textures between the organic and the artificial that invites a reflective dialogue between work, territory, and technology.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE

«Lastre», by Sol Picó

The official opening of the fourteenth edition is structured around Lastre, an autobiographical contemporary dance piece by Sol Picó.

Conceived as a 25-minute site-specific work for the museum's exterior, this solo marks the prelude to a trilogy focused on a process of liberation and healing. The work explores the paradox of ballast: that heavy material which, when released, grants lightness.

On stage, Picó's dance unfolds accompanied by three dancers and inextricably intertwined with Judit Farrés' musical composition.

CONCERT

«Turmarí», by L'arannà

The duo formed by Anna Sala and Lara Magrinyà delves into the musical tradition of Ibiza and Formentera. In Turmarí, synthesizers and keyboards share the stage with castanets, drums, and cant redoblat, the endemic and powerful vibrato of the Pitiüses.

A young, feminine, and experimental proposal that filters folklore and traditional peasant dance through modernity, breaking the cliché of a postcard paradise to connect with the true roots of the islands.

EL RUSQUET. CHILDREN'S SHOW

«Núvols, estels i contes del cel», by Alma i la Mar de Contes

The festival's children's program, under the Rusquet label, presents Núvols, estels i contes del cel (Clouds, Stars, and Sky Tales), a show by Alma i la Mar de Contes.

The proposal offers a poetic and playful approach to meteorological and astronomical phenomena through oral narration. Through three traditional tales from around the world where clouds, water, and stars take center stage, the work connects children's imagination with the cycles of nature from a purely pedagogical perspective.

A morning event designed for families to enjoy in the museum garden.

RECITAL - VERMOUTH

Poetry recital

The festival concludes its fourteenth edition with the grand poetry recital which, unlike previous years, changes day and time, moving to the weekend vermouth instead of the classic Thursday evening.

This daytime and relaxed format will gather the verses of Antoni Clapés, Anna Gual, Roser Bastida, and Àlex Rebollo in the garden, offering a polyphony of accents in direct dialogue with the land and memory.

The definitive closing will be provided by L'esperança encara dansa (Hope Still Dances), an approach to the poetry of Clementina Arderiu through the cello and voice of Glòria Coll Domingo. A proposal that is part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Arderiu's death to mark the perfect end to RUSC.

FAQS

What is Rusc?

Rusc is the Poetry Festival of L'Espluga de Francolí. An annual event that began in 2013 at Museu Terra (formerly Museu de la Vida Rural).

«The desire that moves us to establish a beehive of poets is the need to lavish and consume poetry, to bring poets closer to an audience eager for words, making available, in mid-summer and on the eve of the Major Festival, a selection of honeys from the Catalan lands.»

With these words by Jordi Carulla Ruiz, director of Rusc, the L'Espluga de Francolí Poetry Festival was born.

A festival that has always counted on the invaluable collaboration of Edicions Poncianes, the L'Espluga de Francolí City Council, and the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia.

When is it held?

Rusc is held every July, coinciding with the Major Festival of L'Espluga de Francolí.

Where is it held?

At Museu Terra in L'Espluga de Francolí.
