2018. Museu Terra approves the new Strategic Plan
The 2018 – 2026 Strategic Plan frames all the museum’s actions within cultural education for sustainability.
2019. Museu Terra and Fundació Carulla declare the climate and ecological emergency and commit to addressing it
We commit to working with and supporting the cultural and educational community, as well as the relevant public officials, to address the climate emergency, and we seek alliance and collaboration with all those who are working towards the same goal.
Marta Esteve, director of Fundació Carulla, and Gemma Carbó, director of Museu Terra (formerly Museu de la Vida Rural), publicly read the manifesto in September 2019, during the first edition of the Festival d’Educació per la Sostenibilitat.
2020. We establish the Environmental Policy
We establish the Environmental Policy with nine principles that demonstrate our institutional philosophy and on which all our actions are based.
2021. The museum receives EMAS accreditation
During 2020, the environmental management system EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme), which is voluntarily applied and recognized by the European Union, is implemented to evaluate, improve, and disseminate the museum’s environmental performance.
The information provided by Museu Terra to achieve EMAS accreditation is audited and verified by TÜV Rheinland Ibérica ICT, S.A. in 2021.
2022. The EU highlights the museum as a success story in sustainable management
The European Commission publishes a publication presenting the Museu de la Vida Rural as a case of good practices and highlights its role, environmental management, and activities.
Specifically, it highlights the museum’s role as an agent that educates for sustainability through culture, fostering knowledge and debate. It also explains the museum’s entire process to reduce its environmental footprint.
The case is published on the European Union’s EMAS website in December 2022.
2023. The MVR, awarded at the EMAS Awards in the Best Environmental Statement category
The museum received a commendation in the Best Environmental Statement category from the Hon. Mr. David Mascort i Subiranas, Minister of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
